Works great to tone and cover blonde highlights

I bought this on Amazon with the intent to tone out some of the orange/brassy tones from highlights that were really not the right color for me. I followed the instructions on the package and left on for about 5 minutes. With one application the product toned down my highlights and my hair looks shiny and healthy. I have been using Aveda Blue Malva shampoo to try and tone out the highlights and while it helped somewhat, I wanted something that would deposit color and this product delivered. I’ve used overtone in the past but this is better product. I’ll continue to use this as I grow out my color. It doesn’t cover grey as the package and description says, but I knew that going in and that wasn’t the purpose of using this product. I love the way it smells and that it doesn’t contain harsh chemicals. Thanks for making a great product!

Color refresh cacao on blonde hair turns purple

I just tested out this color at home. I have naturally blonde hair with highlights. I had the mask in for 10 minutes and mixed it with some conditoner for a lighter color. My natural hair color turned brown, but all my highlights turned purple...

I have tried to wash my hair with a clarifying shampoo about ten times just to get the purple out. The purple color has now turned into a greyish color instead. Hopefully this will go away eventually.. It was a really pretty brown color so I`m dissapointed it turned most of my hair purple..

Thank you for your feedback! Colour is very tricky since there's always underlying pigments you can't really see, but it's always written on the bottle so that you know what you're working with. Cacao has blue pigments to ensure a natural brown tone. It's therefore recommended to use on hair with a level of 6-2 which is brown to really dark hair. The recommendations is written to avoid a situations like yours. What happen in your case is that once the brown shade faded, the red pigments took over and since you have blond highligted hair, the underlying pigments of yours collided with the underlying pigments of the colour which turn purple. The fact that it's turning grey is good, it means its starting to fade. And no worries, it will fade but it might just take some extra time. Make sure to keep your hair in a good shape by using a masque often. The more dry/damage hair, the more the pigments want to stay. Feel free to reach out to us at contact@marianila.com if you need any further help from us! :)

    Not a neutral brown

Because of the name cocoa, I was expecting a pure brown. Neutral or warm, i didn’t really care just as long as it was brown. However, the color comes out with a slight purple/pink tint to it…… was definitely not expecting for wanting that :(

Hi Megan, thank you for your feedback! Colour and pigments is very tricky becuase the outcome will look different on everyone. There's blue pigments in Cacao, so in order for your hair to turn slightly purple, it means that you had warm tones (yellow/red) in your hair already. It may sound weird, but to remove blue pigments, you need to add red so you could try to use Cacao mixed with any of our red colours (just a little) to dilute the blue pigments. Please contact us at americas@marianila.com if you need more guidence.
